Running time: 3 hrs.

Le Corsaire
is a ballet for those members of the audience who are seeking miracles whenever they visit a theatre... If, once the curtain rises, you are overcome with an urge to applaud the sunny market square on the stage, if piles of beautiful fake pears and peaches delight your eyes and water your mouth, if you‘re moved by the rivetingly naïve body language of pashas-eunuchs-slaves-pirates, if you’re fascinated by their glamorous costumes, and if a shipwreck on the stage makes you more worried than hearing about one in real life on TV news – then this ballet is most certainly for you.

Don Quixote is one of the favourites of the audience, and not only at the LNOBT. Of course, it probably wouldn’t be very wise to seek the wisdom and profound images created by M. de Cervantes in this ballet, however, the work is not striving to be too serious anyway. Rich, scintillating choreography and melodious, temperamental music filled with Spanish motives is a wonderful entertainment that always brings many merry moments to its viewers. It is a ballet that reminds us of fireworks.

“The majestic fir tree in the middle of the room was decorated with golden and silver apples, sugared almonds and colourful candies were blossoming as if they were flowers, and just look at all those other wonderful sweet! And yet, the most beautiful image was created by the hundreds of little candles, beaming through the darkness of the branches…” This is how The Nutcracker and the Mouse King, written by the German romantic writer Ernst Theodor Amadeus Hoffmann, begins. It inspired Piotr Tchaikovsky to create an incredibly beautiful music for ballet that manages to charm both children and their parents. Even today, around Christmas time a real The Nutcracker fever is always shaking up theatres all over the world!

The song "Non, je ne regrette rien" took the world by storm, and "No, I don't regret anything" was the life motto of its performer legendary Édith Piaf. This petite, fragile woman possessed a powerful voice, with which she told stories of love, loss, passion and the Parisian life. The exceptionally emotional singer, the unrivalled legend of the chanson genre, was often called the sparrow of Paris, and to the French she remains as the national pride and treasure of their country.

It is a vivacious opera for the entire family about the mysterious nanny Mary Poppins, who has some magical abilities. The production tells a story about miracles (the big and small moments of our fleeting lives) to the younger audience, and does that in a simple and engrossing manner. The libretto of this Lithuanian opera was written by poetess Ramutė Skučaitė. She based her text on the stories by Pamela Travers and offered her own perception of Mary Poppins.

Carmen is the most frequently staged opera in the world: ever since it premiered 140 years ago at the Opéra-Comique in Paris, it has remained unsurpassed by any other operatic work when it comes to the number of productions. The intriguing story of a gypsy from Spain, who bravely chooses death in the name of liberty and love, is one of the most impressive contemporary myths dealing with the mysterious nature of a Woman.

Libretto by G. Richlov after Gianni Rodari’s fairy tale

Premiere: 7 November, 2010
Running time: 2.10 hrs.

“Little onion Cipollino was the son of onion Cipollone. He had seven brothers: Cipoletto, Cipolotto, Chipolocho, Cipolucho and so on; all of the names were very suitable for this respectable family of onions” – this is how Gianni Rodari’s book The Adventures of Cipollino begins. The story brought worldwide fame to this winner of Hans Christian Andersen’s medal, and composer Karen Khachaturian set Cipollino to music. The brave Cipollino backed up by his little friends – the jolly Radish-Girl, the wise Cherry-Boy, and the beautiful Magnolia – defeats the evil Prince Citron and the cunning Signor Tomato. Together they experience many adventures, and the story ends very happily!

Fairy tale about Cinderella is as old as the world… Indeed, it can even be found in the papyruses of ancient Egypt! The first printed variant of the tale was published in Italy in 1634, later other versions were presented by Charles Perrault, brothers Grimm. Sergei Prokofiev’s music composed for the ballet is considered to be one of his best works, and his Cinderella has been produced many times in various theatres. On our stage the version of this beautiful fairytale is presented by the pupils from the Ballet Department of the National M. K. Čiurlionis School of Arts.
