"La traviata" is a very important work in the context of opera in Lithuania: on 31 December 1920 it was chosen as the first production to be performed by the Opera and Drama Vaidykla (currently Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre). The tradition of performing Verdi’s masterpiece on New Year’s Eve remained for many years, and La traviata is currently the most performed opera on the stage of the LNOBT.
