Sergei Prokofiev created ballet Romeo and Juliet in 1935-1936 – at that time he regretted his return from West to Russia and tried to get back, however, the Iron Curtain prevented him from doing so. The new impressive ballet was shunned by Russian theatres and saw daylight only in 1938 in Brno, Czechoslovakia. In Lithuania its premiere was unveiled in 1977. The production created in 1993 by Vladimir Vasiliev turned into a staple of Lithuanian ballet. The new interpretation of the eternal love story was offered by LNOBT's artistic director of ballet Krzysztof Pastor.
